It was a wonderful as well as unforgettable moment when my little brother became a new member of our family. I will never forget the beautiful smile he first displayed to me. It was as bright as the summer sunshine, which brought great exhilaration to me.
Having been expecting a baby for over nine months, my mother suddenly felt a great ache in her stomach on the night of August 7th, 2001. Afterwards, She burst into a sweat. It was so painful for her that she could not even say a word. Seeing this kind of situation, I hurried to the sitting room to find my father. Then he rushed into the room, and drove my mother to hospital immediately.
I was left alone in the house. Immersed in a silent atmosphere, I waited for the baby’s birth with anxiety and exhilaration. It was such a long time as if several hours had passed. I did not stop praying for the security of them until I finally received the call from my father one and a half hours later. I was almost moved to tears when he told me everything had gone as I wished.
My father came back to pick me up to hospital after I had prepared the things needed—the porridge, the fruits, feeders, milk powder and other common things for a new mother and a baby. After a while, I arrived at the destination. My mother was quietly sleeping when I entered the room. I came close to the lovely boy. I stared at him and could not help caressing his tender face. While everything around was staying there quietly, he kept twinkling his eyes and showed me his bright smile, which seemed to be a hospitable welcome for my arrival.
My brother has been eight years old now, but he has never lost the beautiful smile on his face— just like the one I saw the day he was born. It was that smile that brought a new hope and happiness to my family.
